The Île Descartes , also known as Descartes Island , is a rocky and 160 m long island off the coast of the East Antarctic Adélieland . It is located 1.4 km north-northeast of Cape Mousse between the islands of Île Lagrange and La Conchée .
Participants in a French Antarctic expedition that lasted from 1950 to 1951 named the island after the French mathematician and philosopher René Descartes (1596–1650).
