The Île du Ressac ( French for surf island , also known as Ressac Island ) is a small and rocky island off the coast of the East Antarctic Adélieland . It is located 1.5 km east of the Île Houle and 6 km northeast of the Zélée glacier tongue .
The first aerial photographs were taken during the US operation Highjump (1946–1947). Participants in a French Antarctic expedition (1949–1951) led by André-Franck Liotard (1905–1982) mapped and named them. The waves breaking here give it its name .
