The river Õngu (Estonian Õngu jõgi ), also known as Õngu brook ( Õngu oja ), flows on the second largest Estonian island, Hiiumaa (German Dagö ).
description
The river is 6.8 kilometers long. Its catchment area covers 8.9 km².
It rises in the bogs of Middle Hiiumaas and is fed by many smaller springs. By rebuilding a dam, it flows through the reservoir of the same name Õngu ( Õngu paisjärv ).
In many places the river is quite deep. The water is clear, even if the river meanders through a dune landscape .
The river crosses the village of Õngu on the lower reaches . It then flows into the Mardihansu Bay ( Mardihansu laht ) in the Baltic Sea .
