Public lavatory on Irisgasse
The public lavatory on Irisgasse is an underground toilet facility below Irisgasse in Vienna's 1st district, Innere Stadt . It is a listed building .
History and architecture
This underground lavatory was designed as one of the last toilet facilities by the Wilhelm Beetz company in 1939. The exits to the underground space are flanked by cast iron barriers. In this underground room there are still the original wooden compartments, whereby the fittings and the counter have also been preserved in their original form. The air outlets are replicas from Otto Wagner's Wiener Postsparkassa , which were installed on the occasion of the installation of the new ventilation system in 2004. The toilet facility extends almost the entire length of Irisgasse, which at 17.5 meters is the shortest street in Vienna.
