Environmental defense! ( Russian Экозащита! ; Ekosaschtschita! ; English Ecodefense! ) Is an environmental organization in Russia.

The organization claims to be committed to non-violence, education, social and ecological justice and a clean and healthy environment. Nuclear power and coal as energy sources are to be replaced by renewable sources.

history

The organization was founded in Kaliningrad at the end of 1989 . There are now sub-organizations in Moscow , Yekaterinburg , Voronezh , Osjorsk and Vilnius . In 2009 the organization became ecological defense! Women's Council ( Экозащита! - Женсовет ) founded in Kaliningrad.

The organization works against pollution of the environment by industry, oil pipelines, coal-fired power plants and others. In the Kaliningrad region , she pointed out the dangers of oil pipelines in the Baltic Sea and the planned Kaliningrad nuclear power plant . As a result of their protests, vigils and a survey among the population, construction was stopped in 2013. In response to this, on July 21, 2014, the organization was registered with the Russian Ministry of Justice as an " organization acting as a foreign agent ". Since then, she has been fined between 100,000 and 300,000 rubles several times for failing to comply with registration requirements, most recently in October 2016.

The organization published a daily bulletin Less than Two Degrees ( Меньше двух градусов ) during several UN climate conferences , in which it critically commented on the positions of Russian representatives.

The organization is a member of the Climate Action Network and the International Social-Ecological Union. It is a partner of several foreign organizations such as Urgewald , the Heinrich Böll Foundation and others. She publishes the publications “Anti Atom Press” and “Ekosashchita”.

The co-founder of ecological defense , Alexandra Korolewa, applied for political asylum in Germany in July 2019 "as the first prominent Russian environmental activist".
