Ecumenism

Ecumenism (Greek οἰκουμένη oikouménē "[whole] inhabited [sc. Earth]", "earth circle") or ecumenical stands for:

  • Oikumene (Greek for inhabited world ), the ancient world
  • Ecumenism (geography) , the constantly populated and agriculturally usable part of the earth's surface
  • Ecumenical movement , dialogue and cooperation between Christian denominations
  • Abrahamic ecumenism , the dialogues between the monotheistic religions Judaism, Christianity and Islam
  • Ecumenical Council :
    • in Christianity the seven general councils of the entire Church (325–787)
    • in the Catholic Church also other councils with the participation of the Eastern Churches
  • Ecumenical theology , the theological reflection on issues that are disputed between denominations
  • Vertical ecumenism , the sustainable understanding between mono- and polytheism
