The Ecumenical Community Center St. Clemens / St. Andreas (also Ecumenical Community Center Thon ) is an ecumenical center in the Nuremberg district of Thon . The western part serves the Protestant parish of St. Andreas as a community center. The eastern part belongs to the Catholic parish of St. Clemens. The St. Clemens Church is located directly in the community center. The St. Andreas Church from 1958, on the other hand, is located a little further south in Kleinreuther Weg.

Building history

The foundation stone was laid in 1984. Both the Catholic part and the Protestant kindergarten, which is located in the center, opened in 1985. Finally, on October 25, 1987, the Church of St. Clemens was consecrated . Construction work was completed in 1988 with the completion of the evangelical section.

While the parts of the building belong to the two communities individually, the inner courtyard represents a common center. It should be under the sign of reconciled diversity in ecumenism . The founding document quotes the words of Martin Buber , which express the wish and hope that God, who established peace “between extreme opposites” in creation, will also do this among people. The fireplace and the water source are a reminder of this.
