John Berends
JCGM (John) Berends (born April 26, 1956 in Zwolle ) is a Dutch politician of the Christian Democratic Appèl (CDA). He has been Commissioner of the King of the Province of Gelderland since February 6, 2019 .
Life
Berends studied in Groningen trays School Education and Public Administration . His professional career began with the police, where he held various management positions at Landelijke Selectie- en Opleidingsinstituut , the Dutch police academy. In 1994 he completed the course in public administration with a master's degree . At the political level he first appeared in 1998. Between 1998 and 2005 he was alderman of the community of Zwolle and deputy mayor for two legislative periods . On March 1, 2005, he took over the post of mayor of the municipality of Harderwijk . After Berend's second term began in Harderwijk in March 2011, he was presented as the new mayor by the council of the municipality of Apeldoorn on March 19 of the following year . His appointment took place on May 24, 2012. The Provinciale Staten of the province of Gelderland proposed him as the new commissioner of the king on December 11, 2018, after his predecessor, Clemens Cornielje , announced his resignation on February 1, 2019 on April 11 of the same year. On January 23, 2019, he was sworn in by Willem-Alexander , King of the Netherlands , in the Paleis Noordeinde . The municipality of Apeldoorn declared Berends an honorary citizen on January 31, 2019 . He took office as Commissioner of the King of Gelderland on February 6, 2019.
Private
Berends is married to Tineke Riesebeek and has two daughters and a son. The family lives in Uddel in the municipality of Apeldoorn.
