The Austrian Library Association is a library association based in Salzburg that represents the interests of around 1,340 member libraries in Austria .

The association was founded in 1947 as the Österreichisches Borromäuswerk ; so it is comparable to the Borromeo Association in Germany . The association sees itself as a forum for Catholic libraries (around 800 of the member libraries are church-sponsored) and is supported as an association by the Austrian Bishops' Conference . The aim is to support and advise libraries. In the area of ​​continuing education, the library works with the Austrian library association .

The organ of the library work is the quarterly bn.bibliotheksnachrichten (founded in 1948 as Bücherei-Nachrichten ). With reviews online open , the Austrian Library Works together with currently 21 different media partners, the largest freely accessible review database in the German-speaking area.

The library is an association and not an association of individuals. Reinhard Ehgartner is currently the managing director.
