The Eastern Melchior Islands together with the Western Melchior Islands form the group of Melchior Islands in the Palmer Archipelago off the Danco coast of Graham Land in the north of the Antarctic Peninsula . They consist of small, icy islands and cliffs east of the strait The Sound . The largest of the Eastern Melchior Islands are the omega and the Etainsel .
The name probably goes back to scientists from the British Discovery Investigations , who roughly mapped these islands in 1927. The naming was based on that of the entire archipelago, whose namesake is the French Vice Admiral Jules Bernard François Melchior (1844-1908).
