Ørsted is an earth observation satellite . It is Denmark's first satellite .
The satellite of the Danish Meteorological Institute was on 23 February 1999 at the Vandenberg Air Force Base launched, together with the satellite ARGOS the US Air Force and the South African microsatellite SUNSAT .
Ørsted was used to measure the earth's magnetic field and is named after the Danish physicist Hans Christian Ørsted (1777–1851), the discoverer of electromagnetism .
