history

Østre Anlæg

Today's approximately 12 hectare park was built on three bastions , two ravelins and a piece of the moat of the city fortifications from around 1630. The city walls of Copenhagen, which were once supposed to allow defense against Swedish, Dutch and English armies, were already outdated in the 19th century by the development of long-range guns. HA Flindt also designed Ørstedsparken and the Botanical Garden ( Botanisk Have ). At the south end of the park is the Statens Museum for Kunst , at the north end the Østerport train station. Another park is not far away: the King's Garden (Kongens Have) . The Den Hirschsprungske Samling art museum (the Hirschsprung collection) is also located in the park within sight of the Statens Museum.
