The Botanical Garden ( Danish Botanisk Have ) in Copenhagen belongs to the University of Copenhagen . The botanical garden of the Danish capital forms part of the Copenhagen ramparts and is used both as a research institution and as a recreational area. It is in close proximity to the Königsgarten .

history

A Hortus medicus was laid out in August 1600. It existed until 1778, after the city was rebuilt after the fire disaster of 1728, but only in a reduced form. With the boom in the natural sciences in the 18th century, there was also an increased interest in botany. In 1752, the German botanist Georg Christian Oeder designed a botanical garden on one of King Frederik VI's. given reason. A small part of the garden was open to the public. In 1778 another botanical garden was set up in Charlottenborg Palace Park . This was successfully received by the public, but the scientific need for a Hortus academicus was not met. From 1871 to 1874, instead of part of the eastern ramparts and the associated glacis, today's botanical garden was designed.

In today's botanical garden

The botanical garden today shows, among other things, representative examples of the local flora, a moraine garden and a rock garden with alpine plants on the remains of the old fortifications. There is also an East Asian department. There are also 24 greenhouses.
