Head of Reitwein
The Reitwein bridge is a structure in the Oderdeich in the municipality of Reitwein in the Märkisch-Oderland district (Brandenburg), which is used to transfer water from the Oder into the water system of the Oderbruch . The bridge was rebuilt in 2002 and 2003 as part of the renovation of the Oder dyke as a replacement for a siphon line. This Oder water transfer is one of two systems in the Oderbruch. The second was built in Kienitz . The system is operated by the Brandenburg State Environment Agency .
Instead of the previous siphon principle , the new transfer pipe enables the water supply to be regulated independently of the Oder water level. A stable water supply can also be guaranteed when the water on the Oder is low . In dry periods, Oder water can be discharged into the water system of the Oderbruch , where there are numerous irrigation systems for growing vegetables. In the Oderbruch, around 1500 hectares of arable land are irrigated for growing vegetables. Here are agriculture Golzow -GmbH and the agricultural cooperative ODEGA Gross Neuendorf each with 400 to 500 hectares of the largest users.
