As a translation service provider is called company or freelance translator that to order translations of text into another language perform. Another name for companies that translate - and interpreting services offer is language service provider ( LSP of English. Language Service Provider ).
Provider types
A basic distinction can be made between three types of providers:
- Freelance translators : Freelance translators mostly work alone or in small groups
- Translation agencies : Translation agencies accept translation orders from clients and pass them on to external freelance translators.
- Translation agencies : Translation agencies accept translation orders from clients and carry them out with permanent or freelance translators.
The definition of translation between translation agencies and translation agencies is fluid, as translation agencies usually also work with external freelance translators.

In the area of translation of usage texts , CAT systems are mostly used to increase efficiency and improve consistency .
Important quality principles for the implementation of translations and the cooperation between client and contractor are listed in the European standard EN 15038 , which replaced the DIN standard DIN 2345 in Germany at the turn of the year 2006/2007 .

In terms of sales for 2017, the US company Transperfect is the global market leader with US $ 615 million (4,067 employees) ahead of US competitors Lionbridge with US $ 590 million (6,300 employees) and Languageline Solutions with US $ 451 million (10,000 employees).
