location

It is located in the district Revaler Ülemiste , south of the Great Schweinsberg road (Estonian Suur-Sõjamäe ), southeast Revaler downtown. A little further south is Tallinn-Lennart Meri Airport . Not far from the park are the highways to St. Petersburg and Dorpat . In addition, there is a train station nearby as well as integration into local public transport.

Design and history

Ülemiste City was founded on the site of the former heavy machinery construction company Dvigatel . From 1899 Dvigatel repaired railway locomotives and wagons here and also produced cars and various other technical goods. After a checkered company history, production was finally stopped in 2005 and the 36 hectare area was restructured into a technology campus. The Kista Science City near Stockholm served as a model .

In Ülemiste City, 81,000 m² of office space and 120,000 m² of industrial space are available, providing space for around 200 companies and 6,000 employees. The park also includes facilities such as kindergarten and school. There are plans to increase the office space to 200,000 m². In addition, 125,000 m² are to be created for living space. There are also cafes, areas for culture and retail as well as parks.

Many of the buildings in Ülemiste City date back to Dvigatel. Some of the buildings on the site are named after well-known Estonian inventors. The E-estonia showroom, in which the digital development of Estonia is presented, is also located on the site.
