Þór Whitehead

Þór Whitehead (born August 19, 1943 ) is an Icelandic historian. He is a professor at the University of Iceland .

Þór Whitehead did extensive research on the history of Iceland during the Second World War and the Cold War . His best-known work is the multi-volume series "Ísland í síðari heimsstyrjöld" ("Iceland in World War II"). He received his PhD from the University of Oxford and in 1981 he was Professor of History at the University of Reykjavík . From 1983 to 1985 he headed the Institute for History there as its director. From 1986 to 1988 he was a Humboldt Fellow at the Military History Research Office of the Bundeswehr in Freiburg im Breisgau . In 2002/03 and 2005/06 he was visiting professor in France.
