Þaralátursfjörður (about algae breeding inlet ) is a small inlet in the West fjords of Iceland .
The fjord is located in the eastern part of Hornstrandir . To the east, the Þaralátursnes headland protrudes far into the sea and separates it from Reykjarfjörður nyrðri , into which a hiking trail leads. There is no road connection here. The last to leave was the Nes farm in 1950. To the west, the Furufjarðarnúpur peninsula separates the fjord from Furufjörður . Most of the land in the fjord is bare of vegetation and there is a large occurrence of the Arctic fireweed , which is rare in the West Fjords. The Þaralátursós river carries the meltwater from Drangajökull .
þari is the Icelandic word for algae. látur → sellátur is the place where seals give birth to their young. There is also the place name Hvallátur in Iceland , meaning a large archipelago where whales give birth.
