The ČSD series M 220.0 was a steam railcar that was manufactured by Škoda in Pilsen for one-man operation on branch lines and was later taken over as a single copy by the former Czechoslovak State Railways (ČSD).

history

Since the first motor vehicles with internal combustion engines did not produce positive operating results around 1900 , steam railcars were used on low-capacity routes, such as the Laun – Libochowitz local railway , at that time . The Komarek steam railcar was known. Although these vehicles produced favorable operating results, their penetration rate compared to vehicles with internal combustion engines was negligible 30 years later. In terms of construction, they were equipped like a small steam locomotive.

The vehicle delivered in 1925 was at that time the newest type of steam railcar for the ČSD. At this time, the first promising test drives of railcars with combustion engines took place. As a result, there was no series production.

The loner was used on the local railways around Kutná Hora . With the commissioning of the large numbers of motorized railcars of the M 131.1 series , the vehicle was retired and scrapped in 1948.

technical features

The boiler was designed as a water tube boiler of the Škoda-Sentinel type .

The steam engine was two-cylinder and had a valve control.
