location
Habsburgerallee station is on the U7 between the Zoo and Parliament Square stations . Viewed from the city center, it is the first station on the so-called Ostend line . The zoo is in the immediate vicinity .
Construction
As in the first construction phase of the C-route, the Habsburger Allee underground station was built in an open, covered excavation, but the route tunnels were built using a closed, mining method. For cost reasons, the station was not designed by external architects, but by the Stadtbahnbauamt itself, which from an architectural point of view led to less spectacular results than in the first construction phase.
The pillars on the platform are covered with green metal plates. The walls show a large mosaic with 66 donkeys . These transport various objects from everyday life, such as telephones , syringes , money cards , but also clouds , another donkey or even a naked person. The artist Manfred Stumpf wants to use the donkeys to point out mythological and modern "plagues" such as drugs , alcohol , armaments mania and consumer terror .
