location
Parliamentplatz station is on the U7 between the Habsburgerallee and Eissporthalle stations . Viewed from the city center, it is the second station on the so-called Ostend line . The Ostpark is in the immediate vicinity .
Construction
As in the first construction phase of the C-route, the Parliament Square underground station was built in an open, covered construction pit, but the route tunnels were built using a closed, mining method. For cost reasons, the station was not designed by external architects, but by the Stadtbahnbauamt itself, which from an architectural point of view led to less spectacular results than in the first construction phase.
Yellow metal plates hang on the pillars of the station. The wall is tiled in beige, there is also a wide black and white picture with a silhouette. On the enamel plates, the artist Udo Koch shows motifs from everyday advertising graphics, mostly in schematic form. Torn out of context, objects such as washing machines, lamps or vacuum cleaners are shown enlarged and seemingly mixed up. The FAZ described it as “a grandiose shadow theater”.
