The class M 220.2 railcar was a four-axle, twin-engine benzene - mechanical railcar for mixed traffic of the former Czechoslovak State Railways (ČSD). After the M 230.0 it was the second prototype of twin-engine railcars with mechanical power transmission from the ČSD.

History and commitment

In 1927, after the M 230.0 , a second motor car with two-engine drive was built near Tatra Kopřivnice . Only the gearbox design and gear ratio were changed, and there were also some changes to the car body.

In operation, the car had the same characteristics as the M 230.0 . The car remained in service until 1940. Then it was converted into a sidecar. Compared to the M 220.1 , both prototypes brought no progress in traffic on the flat. The performance was about the same, the drive system was more complicated.

technical features

The car had the same structure as the M 230.0 . The transmission ratio between the drive system and the drive axle was changed, so that a slightly higher tractive force resulted.

Other bogies were also used. While in the M 230.001 for primary and secondary cushion coil springs were used, which had M 220,201 leaf springs. The center distance of the bogies has been shortened from 2440 mm to 2100 mm.
