A two-axle railcar of the former Czechoslovak State Railways (ČSD) for traffic on branch lines was designated as the ČSD series M 230.1 .

history

In 1929 this motor vehicle was built for ČSD with electrical power transmission according to the Škoda system . This system of power transmission is a further development of the simple GEBUS system and completes it.

Only one example of this vehicle was built. The reasons for the lack of series production were on the one hand the insufficient number of seats and the fact that vehicles with mechanical power transmission such as the ČSD series M 130.1 enabled more economical operation.

technical features

The power transmission of the vehicle is based on a six-cylinder four-stroke petrol engine from Škoda. This engine had a cylinder diameter of 105 mm and a stroke of 140 mm and delivered an output of 78 hp at a speed of 1400 rpm.

The power was transmitted via the generator. This had three windings; a derivative, an opposite pole and a third-party winding. The external winding was used to start the internal combustion engine, here the generator served as a motor, fed by the battery. The derivative winding involved switching on several resistors, which were switched on or off mechanically by the drive switch. This changed the power output and characteristics of the generator. The generator supplied power to the traction motors connected in parallel, which were designed as traction motors on both axles.

In the car body , two cabs were arranged at the ends. The passenger compartment had 38 seats and was heated by the exhaust gases from the combustion engine. The braking system was the same as in the previous models. In order to reduce the weight of the vehicle, the number of seats has been reduced. This wasn't ideal for the operation. Therefore the manufacturers of the ČSD series M 222.0 switched to a larger car body.

Although the vehicle had little chance of a long service life as a loner, it was able to assert itself on various ČSD local railways until after the end of the Second World War because it proved itself technically. He was deployed in the areas around Budweis and Pilsen . According to official statistics, it was retired on July 2, 1948 in Pilsen.
