String quartet

The Čiurlionis String Quartet ( lit.Ciurlionio kvartetas ) is a string quartet from Vilnius , the capital of Lithuania . The string quartet was founded in 1968 at the Lietuvos muzikos akademija . It belongs to the National Philharmonic of Lithuania and bears the name of the musician Mikalojus Konstantinas Čiurlionis (1875–1911). The quartet had over 3000 concerts in Lithuania and abroad (“ Berliner Festwochen ”, “ Prager Frühling ”, “ Vlaanderen ”, “ Janačkuv mai ”, “ Moravian Autumn ”, “ Balve Höle”" Etc.).

In 1990 it was awarded the National Culture and Art Prize of Lithuania.

The musicians are Jonas Tankevičius (1st violin), Darius Dikšaitis (2nd violin), Gediminas Dačinskas (alto) and Saulius Lipčius (cello). The quartet has played in this composition since 2003.
