The SV Wittlich (officially: Sportverein Wittlich 1912 eV ) is a sports club from Wittlich in the district of Bernkastel-Wittlich . The first soccer team played for five years in the then third or fourth class Oberliga Südwest .
history
The club goes back to the FC Wittlich founded on December 13, 1908 , which was dissolved about two years later. On August 4, 1912, SV Wittlich was founded, which in 1920 joined TV Wittlich , which was founded in 1883, and formed its football department. As part of the clean divorce , the football department became independent again on August 9, 1924 as SV Wittlich. In 1945 the TV Wittlich joined the SV Wittlich, but split off again in 1950 under its old name.
The team achieved their first success in 1936 when they became champions of the district league. In the ascent to the then first-class Gauliga Mittelrhein , however, the Wittlich failed at Spvgg Andernach . After the Second World War, in 1953 they were promoted to the then third-class amateur league Rhineland . From this, the team rose in 1955 and was then passed through to the district league. In the following decades, the team commuted between 2nd amateur league or district league and district league. In 1987 the B-Jugend became Rhineland champions and qualified for the German championship , where they were eliminated in the first round against 1. FC Nürnberg . A year later, the first team made it to the Association League Rhineland , where the team was runner-up in 1991 behind VfB Wissen . A year later Wittlich became champion and rose to the then third-class Oberliga Südwest.
The team was able to establish itself quickly in the major league. In 1994, the Wittlicher also reached the final of the Rhineland Cup , which was lost 4-1 on penalties against FSV Salmrohr . In the following season 1994/95 the team reached the previous sporting zenith with fifth place. Two years later, the team rose from the league. One point was missing at the end of the season to keep up. In 1999 he was relegated to the regional league, where the team was immediately passed through to the regional league. In 2003 the Wittlicher had to relegate to the district league because of non-compliance with the referee . In the meantime, a planned merger with the neighboring club SV Klausen had failed.
Since 2011, SV Wittlich and SV Lüxem have formed the SG Wittlich / Lüxem syndicate . For the 2013/14 season, the syndicate managed to get promoted to the Rhineland League , but was immediately relegated. After another relegation to the District League A Mosel, the club was able to celebrate the championship in 2017 and the associated return to the District League West. Here you could achieve the 6th place in the 2017/18 season.
