Since the end of his career as a player, Herres has been working part-time as a coach. From April 1998 to March 2000 he was a coach at FSV Salmrohr. Then he supervised u. a. the Luxembourg first division club CS Grevenmacher , with whom he became national champion and cup winner in 2002. Later, Herres was employed as an assistant coach at the top division club Eintracht Trier . From March 5, 2007 to April 3, 2007 he took over the training of the first team of Eintracht Trier after his predecessor Adnan Kevrić had resigned. For the 2007/08 season, Herres took up the position of coach at his former club, FSV Salmrohr, which is now in the Rhineland Association League. Already in January 2008 the Salmtaler parted from Herres and replaced him with Werner Platz. After a season at FC Bitburg , he was active again at Eintracht Trier from 2011 to 2014, this time as coach of the U19 and the 2nd team. From the end of November 2015 until the end of the season he briefly coached the district league club SV Zeltingen-Rachtig.
In 2016 he then took over the position of sporting director at his former club CS Grevenmacher in Luxembourg. Since March 2018, Herres has been a coach again at CSG, which is now on a relegation zone in the Luxembourg second division .
