Jirō Ōtsuka

Jiro Ōtsuka ( jap. 大塚次郎 , Ōtsuka Jiro * 28. February 1934 in Tokyo , Japan ; † 26. June 2015 in Tokyo) was a karate - Grand Master of style Wado-Ryu and the second son of the style's founder Hironori Ōtsuka . He headed the Wadō-Ryū Renmei Association from 1982 to 2015.

Ōtsuka Jirō began in 1949 under the guidance of his father with the training of Wadō-Ryū karate. In addition to karate, Ōtsuka also trained Iaido , Kendo , Judo , Aikido and Shintō-Yōshin-ryū ( 神道 揚 心 流 ). He graduated from Meiji University with a degree in economics .

Jirō Ōtsuka accompanied his father Hironori to technical karate seminars in Europe and America in the 1970s and 1980s. After the death of his father in 1982 he took over the board of the Wadō-Ryū Renmei and took his father's name as grandmaster ( Soke ). He was on the board of Wadō-Ryu Renmei until his death in June 2015.

As the highest ranking karateka of the Wadō-Ryū Renmei, he taught traditional Wadō-Ryū at the Honbu Dōjō in Tokyo and at seminars around the world.

Private

He and his wife Aiko had three children: Kazutaka (1965), Rika (1967) and Kazumichi (1968).
