Şeyh Galip , also Sheikh Galib , actually Mehmed Es'ad (* 1757 in Istanbul , † 3. January 1799 ) was an Ottoman poet and Mevlevi - Sheikh .

In 1783 he completed his main work Hüsn ü Aşk ( Beauty and Love ), an allegorical Mesnevi of 2101 verses, and shortly afterwards he joined the Mevlevi Order. In 1791 he became Sheikh of Mevlevihane in Galata . In 1799 he died of tuberculosis .

The Galip Dede Caddesi in Istanbul named after him leads from Tünel Square to the Galata Tower .
