The Žirmūnai Bridge ( lit.Žirmūnų tiltas ) is a bridge in the Lithuanian capital Vilnius . It is a cantilever bridge and is located in the districts of Antakalnis and Žirmūnai , by the St. Peter and Paul Church .

The length of the bridge is 210.4 m, the width 20.8 m and the height 18 m. The bridge is divided into three parts, the central part is 100 meters long. The bridge has six transport lanes and two sidewalks and will also be used by pedestrians. The Neris River makes a strong curve in this place and the right bank is eight meters higher, so the asymmetrical construction was designed.

history

The bridge, built in 1966, was designed by the Soviet Leningrad Institute "Lenpromtransnprojekt" on behalf of the Vilnius Bridge Construction Administration ( Vilniaus tiltų statybos valdyba ) in Soviet Lithuania .

In 1971, authors and builders were awarded the USSR Council of Ministers Prize for the bridge project .

The bridge has been protected by the state as a cultural monument since 1996 .

In 2010 the hanging sculpture "Royal Apple" (author K. Vildžiūnas) was installed under the bridge.
