Lists on the subject |
The .270 Winchester rifle cartridge (metric designation 7 × 64.5 mm) was developed in 1923 by the Winchester Repeating Arms Company . The .270 Winchester follows a concept similar to the German 7 × 64 mm caliber , with the latter usually being loaded with heavier bullets.
development
The .270 Winchester was developed from the American military cartridge .30-03 by retracting the case edge to 7 mm. The round-headed .30-03 was an intermediate stage in development that led from the .30-40 Krag to the .30-06 Springfield .
technology
The .270 Winchester is characterized by its high speed and the ability to shoot at long range. The 130 grain bullet (8.4 grams) of the .270 Winchester originally achieved an average muzzle velocity of 957 m / s and was reduced to an average of 933 m / s (RWS 8.4 g HMK v 0 958 m / s - 10 g EVO v 0 830 m / s - real measured values). The 100-grain bullet (6.5 grams) is less common, the 150-grain bullet (9.7 grams) is often used; the 9.07 gram / 140 grain bullet is common.
commitment
The .270 Winchester is one of the world's most popular hunting calibers. It is especially in the hunting of deer , wild boar and outside of Central Europe and on the elk hunting used. In Central Europe, with the exception of a few field areas in the lowlands, the caliber is almost only widespread in mountain regions.
