.jobs

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

.jobs is a generic top-level domain (gTLD) administered by Employ Media LLC , based in Cleveland . It has existed since September 8, 2005 and is primarily intended for companies that want to operate a website with job offers . Reservations for .jobs have been accepted by various providers since June 2005.

properties

A .jobs domain can be between three and 63 characters long and contain only alphanumeric characters . Other characters are only possible if they are hyphens that are not at the very beginning, at the end or in the third and fourth positions. To order a .jobs domain, it is necessary to prove that a website is operated at the address. A pure placeholder is not permitted, and the domain must contain the name of the registering company.

In 2010, the allocation of location-based domains gave the ending a bigger boost, but compared to other generic top-level domains, .jobs is still not very common. In the course of the introduction of further new top-level domains , experts rated the domain as moderately successful, just like .travel . In addition, it became known that the award criteria will be liberalized in the future so that .jobs can be registered by anyone without restriction. In the course of this, the so-called Trademark Clearinghouse of ICANN , which is actually only intended for new top-level domains , will be implemented for this already existing address.

Dispute with ICANN

In August 2011, there was a dispute between Employ Media and the Internet administration ICANN , as the latter initially approved the allocation of generic .jobs domains, but later withdrew them. The registry then filed a lawsuit with the International Chamber of Commerce , whereupon ICANN threatened to withdraw the license. Ultimately, both parties agreed on a compromise in which the domain does not have to be identical to the name of the company, but must at least contain it. This means that generic addresses are at least partially possible.
