.travel

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

.travel is a generic top-level domain (gTLD) operated by the Tralliance Registry Management Company based in Fort Lauderdale . It was introduced on July 27, 2005 as one of the first generic extensions to be administered by a sponsor . The first address ever registered under this gTLD was travel.travel , which is operated by the registry .

target group

In contrast to .com , .net , .org and other addresses, the top-level domain is not available to everyone, but only to people and organizations in the travel industry . This included, for example, airlines , hotels , amusement parks , casinos , ferries or restaurants , but also cities and municipalities as travel destinations themselves. When ordering a .travel domain, the owner must provide evidence of his reference to the ending.

Due to the high requirements and very special target group .travel was repeatedly criticized, experts saw no need for this domain. The lack of interest in .travel in 2007 meant that the operator got into financial difficulties, from which he has now recovered.

properties

In total, a .travel domain can be between three and 63 characters long, the use of internationalized domain names is currently not possible. Whether and when this will be introduced is currently (status: 10/2012) not yet clear. A domain is usually connected within 24 hours.
