1-8 Panmure Terrace

At 1-8 Panmure Terrace in the Scottish town of Montrose in the Council Area Angus is a row of residential buildings. In 1971 the structure was included in the Scottish monument lists in the highest monument category A.

description

The row of residential buildings from around 1850 was commissioned by a Japp family . The classically designed row of buildings consists of six individual houses that are lined up in a closed construction. It is across from a green area on Provost Scott's Road on the eastern edge of historic downtown Montrose. While the inner four houses are two-story, the closing houses with house numbers 1-2 and 7-8 are three-story. Their east-facing main facades are each four axes wide, while those of the inner houses are each three axes wide. The inner houses are mirrored in pairs along the symmetrical main facade.

Pre-staircases with cast iron railings lead to the entrance doors on the sides. These are designed with simple, two-part window panes. Two windows are on the ground floor, three more on the upper floor. Two balconies with decorative cast iron balustrades connect two houses each. Curved dormer windows emerge from the slate roofs . This is wider at house number 4. The entrance doors of the outer houses are designed with Ionic columns.
