101 Reykjavík is a 1996 novel by Hallgrímur Helgason . The novel tells of the mid-thirties Hlynur's search for stability and meaning in his life.

Hlynur lives alone with his lesbian mother and her partner Lola in postcode district 101 of the Icelandic capital Reykjavík . As an unemployed computer specialist, he spends his days partying, watching porn and chatting with his Hungarian internet acquaintance Kati.

He also has a loose and purely sexual relationship with the younger Hófí, whom he met on one of his nightly forays into the K-Bar.

When, within a few days, Hófí from him, his sister Elsa due to an anti-baby pill he stole and Lola become pregnant after a one-night stand together, Hlynur begins to see the children as 'his' children. This feeling is short-lived, however, as Hófí has ​​an abortion, Elsa loses the child and Lola names another father.

Finally, Hlynur travels with two friends to Amsterdam and Paris , where he wants to meet his Internet acquaintance Kati. In the feeling of deep affection for her, he renounces his previous way of life and promises to change. Then he learns that Kati has come with her boyfriend.

Hlynur rates women based on how much money he would pay to sleep with them. As a result, each female person is awarded a sum of Icelandic kronor in brackets.
