133-139 Nethergate

At 133-139 Nethergate in the Scottish city ​​of Dundee in the council area of the same name there is a residential and commercial building. In 1965 the building was included in the Scottish monument lists in the highest monument category A.

history

Presumably there was a previous structure at the site, fragments of which were integrated into the current structure. The building was built for Daniel Morgan around 1794 . It was expanded in the early 19th century. In 1990 the building was restored for the Cleghorn Housing Association .

description

The four-story building is on Nethergate on the western edge of Dundee city center. Nethergate House is diagonally opposite . It is designed in the style of Samuel Bell . The masonry is made of quarry stone . On the other hand, on the part of the building that was supplemented in the early 19th century, rubble stone roughly cut into ashlar was used. Shops are set up on the ground floor, while apartments can be found on the upper floors. The rounded Morgan Tower emerges from the facade on the right. There the flat shop windows close with a cornice . Four Venetian windows are let into it, of which the side windows of the top one are blind. Twelve-part lattice windows are installed along the rest of the facade . The final roof is covered with gray slate.
