The 14-inch / 45-Vickers naval gun was a naval gun of the Imperial Japanese Navy , which was developed by the British Vickers company. The Imperial Japanese Navy used year 43 as the designation for the British guns and year 41 for the guns that they had produced themselves in their workshops in Kure. The naming of the weapon referred to 1908, the "year 41" according to the Meiji era . The weapon was installed on battleships and battlecruisers of the Imperial Japanese Navy and was used in the Pacific War .

The 35.56 cm L / 45 guns were installed on the Kongō class . They used a so-called wire wrapping tube, in which a glowing steel wire was wrapped in a cross shape under great tension around an inner tube in order to achieve a corresponding pre-tension. The barrel was then enclosed by an outer tube. The barrel had a lifespan of around 250 shots.

The Japanese 35.56 cm guns were initially installed on the ships in such a way that their elevation range was only about + 25 °. From 1937 the towers were rebuilt to increase it to + 43 °. Exceptions were the aft towers of the Hyūga and Ise , which due to their design did not have enough space for the conversion.
