The 152 mm L / 35 cannon M1877 was a naval gun of the Imperial Russian Navy . It was also used as a coastal gun. Developed in 1885, the last variants of the cannon remained in service until the First World War .

development

The weapon was created in 1882 based on a design by the Russian designer Brink. The tube was in one piece. To reinforce the pipe, five rings with a diameter increasing from the front (pipe mouth) to the rear (closure) were shrunk on. In 1887 the first of these cannons were completed and installed on battleships of the Black Sea Fleet.

In 1887, a version of the gun was developed in which the one-piece barrel was reinforced by a wire winding. The weight of the pipe fell from 6.4 t in the original version to 5.1 t. Ten of these guns were installed on the battleship Imperator Nikolai I and the gunboats of the Grozjashchi- class . 35 more cannons were ordered, but the order was placed in 1890 in favor of the further developed cannon with a two-piece barrel. In this version, the weight of the pipe was reduced to 4.9 t. The first cannons of this design were produced in 1892, but the order was shortened to 18 in favor of the 152 mm L / 45 cannon M1892 .

construction

As described, different versions of the pipe were used. A piston closure according to the Trell de Bolue system was used as a closure. Since effective tube brakes were not available at the time of development, the upper mount rested on a Vavasseur slideway , which absorbed the recoil of the gun. The lower mount was designed as a pivot mount , while center pivot mounts and turntable mounts were also built. The gun was used on ships either in an open installation or in a casemate installation.

Grenades were fired with a bullet weight between 54 and 56 kg (heavy) and 41.5 kg (light). 22.9 kg of black powder were used as the propellant charge. With the light grenade a range of 7470 m was achieved with a tube elevation of 12 degrees, and a range of 8780 m with a tube elevation of 15.25 degrees.
