2 + 2 + 2

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

2 + 2 + 2 denotes a multi-channel sound system with 6 channels for recording and playback. It is characterized by full three-dimensional surround sound - in addition to right-left and front-back, you can also hear from above and below - and an independent listening position.

All 6 channels are recorded separately from each other. For playback in the 2 + 2 + 2 method, a DVD-Audio player with six independent outputs and a corresponding amplifier is required. Four loudspeakers are positioned in front of and two behind the listening position, three each on the left and right. The main speakers are at the front left and right at a distance x . The upper front speakers are positioned vertically above at a height of ½ x . The rear speakers are arranged in the middle on the left and right. All 6 loudspeakers are at the same distance from the listening position and have the same volume level.

2 + 2 + 2 recordings can be played back conventionally on stereo or 5.1 systems.

The German classical record label MDG ( Musikproduktion Dabringhaus & Grimm ) releases SACDs that were recorded with 2 + 2 + 2. The vdt (Association of German Tonmeister eV) offers seminars on this topic.
