2-HMP procedure

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The 2-HMP method is a measuring method for the determination of lower aldehydes . The discontinuous method is used in particular to measure emissions from acrolein .

Structure, procedure and use

For the determination of lower aldehydes, a partial flow of the laden exhaust gas is passed through a sampling pipe that is covered with a sorbent. The sorbent is a carrier material that is coated with 2- (hydroxymethyl) piperidine (2-HMP). The 2-HMP reacts with the aldehydes contained in the exhaust gas to form oxazolidines , which are then extracted with toluene . After the extraction , the extraction solution is analyzed by gas chromatography so that the individual components can be quantified.

The process is used, among other things, in the ceramic industry, in wood-burning systems and in smoking systems.
