description

The building is right on Market Street , the city's main street, in the center of Haddington, not far from City Hall . It was built during the 17th century. The exact year of construction is not recorded. In the middle of the 18th century, the street-side facade was extensively redesigned. Located in the middle of a closed street, the house has two direct neighbors, of which 26-27 Market Street to the west is also classified as a category A monument.

To erect the three-storey building, quarry stone was roughly cut into blocks and built into layered masonry that is exposed on the upper floors. A shop is set up on the ground floor, while the upper floors serve as living space. The south-facing front is four axes wide on the upper floors. The business premises with entrance doors and flat shop windows are on the right-hand side of the ground floor. To the left of this is the entrance door to the building; next to it a doorway to the inner courtyard. The building has an L-shaped floor plan, with one leg pointing to the north. There is a covered staircase in the inner corner of the building. The roof of the extension is designed with a stepped gable . The roofs are covered with slate.
