The 24e Régiment de tirailleurs sénégalais ( German  24th Senegalese Rifle Regiment ) was an infantry regiment of the colonial troops of the Armée de terre . The regiment existed from 1923 until its dissolution in 1954.

history

The regiment was formed in 1923 from cadres of the 24th Colonial Infantry Regiment as the 24e Régiment de Tirailleurs . It took part in the Rif War from 1925 to 1927 ; In 1926 it got its final name. In 1940 it was involved in fighting on the Maginot Line during the Western Campaign . At Erquinvillers ( Oise ) it was surrounded on the night of June 9, 1940 and was taken prisoner. The captured soldiers were attacked with bayonets and beaten. After the defeat of France , the unit was disbanded in June 1940. In 1947 she was rebuilt and served in the Indochina War . After the French withdrew from Indochina, the regiment was finally disbanded in 1954.
