Standard Oil Building on 26 Broadway in Manhattan

The former Standard Oil Building is a building in the New York borough of Manhattan at the beginning of Broadway , right on Bowling Green .

history

In 1922, the building was built in Lower Manhattan at 26 Lower Broadway in the vicinity of the 42 Broadway office building . The facade is somewhat reminiscent of the Municipal Building , only that it is curved in the other direction because it follows the curve of the street - a completely new idea at the time. One of the founders of the oil company that built this building in 1922 was John D. Rockefeller , who played an important role in the history of New York. Until 2006 this building housed the Museum of American Financial History, which is now located at 48 Wall Street.

According to its purpose, the building has the shape of an oil lamp. From here, at that time, you could see your own ships coming in and out - and of course those of the competition.
