history
The years around the turn of the century 1900 were marked by a strong building boom in New York City. New construction options and the first use of elevators, such as in the Beaver Building , made it possible to reach ever greater heights. In 1902, Henry Ives moved to New York after being commissioned to build a building at 42 Broadway. The main features are the richly decorated facade and the impressively designed entrance area, made of Lahn marble , each with two gold-plated "42" house numbers. A novelty were the 12 lifts that were built into the building, which have a capacity of up to 5000 people a day.
With its close proximity to Wall Street , Bowling Green and the Standard Oil Building, 42 Broadway is one of the top addresses in southern Manhattan. Today, the building mainly houses financial service providers such as the Chase Manhattan Bank , which has a branch here.
