3 point game

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The 3-point play ( Engl. Three-point-play ) is a game situation in basketball .

If a player is fouled during a throwing action (normal jump shot, lay-up , dunk, etc.) but still hits, he scores points for that throw. In addition, he has the chance to convert a bonus free throw . If the player hits the free throw, he can play a 3-point game .

Before the three-point line was introduced in basketball in the 1960s, it was the only way to get three points in one move. The 3-point game must therefore also be distinguished from the three-point throw , in which a player behind the three-point line scores a basket success (so-called three-point ).

In English, an and one is also spoken of when a free throw is awarded following a converted hit .
