from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The 33rd Waffen-Kavallerie-Division of the SS (Hungarian No. 3) was a unit of the Waffen-SS formed in November 1944 from scattered Hungarian cavalry units . As a division , however, it really only existed on paper. Even before the planned line-up was implemented, the units previously collected for this purpose were deployed to defend Budapest due to the worsening situation at the front . There they were enclosed by the Red Army together with the two SS cavalry divisions Florian Geyer and Maria Theresia , as well as large parts of the 3rd Hungarian Army , and destroyed at the beginning of February during the Battle of Budapest .
