The 346th Infantry Division was a German infantry division that existed from 1942 to 1945 during World War II .

history

The division was set up on September 21, 1942 in Bad Hersfeld as a native division for the Commander-in-Chief West in the Association of the 15th Army on the Western Front . After landing in Normandy , the unit was broken up in the Falaise pocket in August 1944 .

The division was re-established in December 1944 in the Netherlands from remnants of the old division and remnants of the 70th , 331st and 334th Infantry Divisions and the 16th Air Force Field Division . In April 1945, the unit was taken prisoner of war by the British near Arnhem .
