Gerhard Lindner (born December 26, 1896 in Bautzen , † June 3, 1982 in Aurich ) was a German major general in World War II .

Lindner joined the Saxon Army as a flagjunker on September 22, 1914 during the First World War and was promoted to lieutenant on March 5, 1915 in the infantry regiment "Grand Duke Friedrich II of Baden" (4th Royal Saxon) No. 103 . It was passed on June 30, 1919. On December 1, 1935, he was taken over as an E-officer with the rank of captain in the Wehrmacht . From May 1, 1938 he was chief of a company of the 48th Infantry Regiment. At the beginning of the war he was chief of a company in the 172nd Infantry Regiment. He served on various fronts during World War II. From December 1, 1939 he was adjutant in the 162nd Infantry Regiment. On January 1, 1942, he was commander of the 1st Battalion of the 167th Infantry Regiment. On March 1, 1942, he was promoted to lieutenant colonel. He became commander of the 167th Infantry Regiment on May 1, 1942. He was promoted to colonel on December 1, 1942. On April 15, 1944, he became an adjutant in the 1st Army . From May 1, 1944, he was an adjutant in Army Group H in the Netherlands. In November to December 1944 he attended a division leader course.

From January 9 to January 21, 1945 he was in charge of the 17th SS Panzer Grenadier Division "Götz von Berlichingen" . On February 1, 1945 he became commander of the 346th Infantry Division , based in the Netherlands. He was appointed major general on April 20, 1945. As commander of the 346th Infantry Division, he was awarded the German Cross in Gold on February 1, 1945 and the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross on May 5, 1945 .
