35 millimeters - The Retro-Film-Magazin is a German print magazine that deals with films between 1895 and 1965. It has been published every two months since 2014. The editorial team consists of film students, film scholars and film lovers who share their passion for classic films. The magazine is only available via the website's online shop.

Time limitation and content

The time frame of 70 years (1895–1965) was set for various reasons. On the one hand, the publisher and founder Jörg Mathieu was keen to bring "the good old days" of film closer to younger generations and to save films from that time from being forgotten. But above all, it is the time from the official birth of the medium of film to the replacement of the Golden Age of Hollywood by modern cinema under the influence of the Nouvelle Vague in Europe.

Each issue appears under a specific topic, which is expanded by sections and columns, such as DVD and book reviews, "The Forgotten Film" or "On Set".

In November 2018, a special edition of the magazine will be published on the occasion of the 32nd Braunschweig International Film Festival .
