4:13 Dream is the thirteenth studio album by the English band The Cure . It was released by Geffen Records in October 2008.
background
For the album 4:13 Dream , The Cure had come up with an extraordinary advertising measure in which the number 13 was of great importance. The band announced on May 1, 2008 that their new and 13th album would be released on September 13 of the same year. Until then, a new single should be released from the album on the 13th of every month. The First One was released on May 13th. This was followed by Freakshow on June 13th, Sleep When I'm Dead on July 13th and finally The Perfect Boy on August 13th. Each of the singles featured a new song as the B-side that was not selected for the final album.
On July 16, the release date of the album was postponed to October 13 and instead released the EP Hypnagogic States on September 13 , which contained remixes of the previous four singles. The release date of the album was then postponed again and finally appeared on October 27th. It contained 13 tracks, four of which were released as singles, which the title 4:13 Dream reflects.
During the announcement of the compilation of the final album, Robert Smith stated that only the most popular songs from an originally planned double album were selected for 4:13 Dream . The more melancholy songs could possibly appear on a later album.
4:13 Dream debuted at number 16 on the Billboard 200 and sold 24,000 copies in the US in the first week. The album reached number 21 in the German charts.
criticism
On the Allmusic website the album got 2 out of 5 stars. Only the songs The Perfect Boy and This. Here and Now. With You got under your skin, but would be "surrounded by too many half-baked melodies and shapeless, colorless sound waves."
The Rolling Stone was 4:13 Dream 3.5 out of 5 stars and wrote, the album contains a "few nice songs."
