4-24 High Street (Renfrew)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

There are three residential and commercial buildings at 4-24 High Street in the Scottish town of Renfrew in the Renfrewshire council area . In 1994 they were included as an ensemble in the Scottish monument lists in monument category B.

description

The buildings are located at the beginning of High Street ( A877 ) adjacent to the corner house 1–3 Hairst Street . They were built in 1926 for the Renfrew Equitable Cooperative Society as an enclosed construction along the road. The houses can be divided into two units consisting of house numbers 14 and 24 in the east and number 4 in the west. The brickwork of the three-story houses is made of red sandstone . The north-facing front of numbers 14 and 24 is almost symmetrical. Shops and business premises are set up on the ground floor. Two window axes are flanked on both upper floors by colossal pilasters with triangular gables . Bay windows protrude over both upper floors near the building edges. Building number 4 is stylistically adapted to the two previous buildings and constructed similarly and also designed with classicist details.

In 2012 the buildings were entered on the register of endangered listed buildings in Scotland. The reasons given are moisture in the masonry and the partially vacant space. The condition is classified as bad, but the risk is classified as low. In the same year, an application for partial conversion of the upper floors to living space was granted.
